Mastery of the basics

For all of us, emotional intelligence consists of five key areas of mastery. They are:

- Knowing your feelings and use them to make decisions of life you can live with.

- Be able to manage your emotional life without being hijacked by it - not being paralyzed by depression or worry, or swept away by anger.

- Persisting in the face of setbacks and channeling your impulses in order to pursue your goals.

- Empathy - reading other people's emotions without the need to tell you what they feel.

- Handling feelings in relationships with skill and harmony - being able to articulate the unspoken pulse of a group, for example.

The scope of these powers means that there is indeed room for all of us to learn, grow and improve. There is much to learn here. Learning about emotional intelligence, learning tools for energy efficiency, which is just the beginning. It 's like reading all the books on sailing and sailing small. You then have mastered the theory, but do not have hands on practice. It 's only by doing that we gain mastery of anything. This is true of our feelings and emotions too!

The mastery of all the fundamental principles does not occur overnight. But with practice it very quickly - like learning to ride a bicycle.
