Howard Dean's tenure as chairman of the Democratic National Committee will be fleeting unless he avoids a common trap I call it leadership, the Leader Fallacy. "
Leaders Leader's Fallacy join when they feel their enthusiasm for a particular challenge, leadership is automatically reciprocated by the people they lead.
However, in leadership, automatic reciprocity is an illusion. Just you, because as leaders are motivated, does not mean that people are motivated too. Howard Dean is a case in point. Saying the "Dean Screech" during the Democratic primary, which was certainly justified. But that display of motivation turned off a lot of people and caused his candidacy to failure.
Fallacy of the president looms large as Dean leads the DNC. Of course, he is motivated to extend the reach of Democrats in the base of voters of our nation and turn red states blue. But his motivation is not really the problem. It 's a fact. After all, if he is not motivated, it should not be leaders in the DNC.
Here's the real problem, and I wonder if Dean and his lieutenants at the DNC understand: It can transfer his motivation to large segments of American voters, especially Democrats and even some Republicans off, so that they become as motivated as he is about values democracy?
There is a simple, powerful antidote to the fallacy of the leader. I began teaching the leaders of all ranks and functions worldwide. And 'The Leadership Talk. Many leaders fall into the clutches of the fallacy of the Cape when they give speeches and presentations. Speeches and presentations simply communicate information. There is another, much more effective means of communication leadership. This is the Leadership Talk. Unlike speeches and presentations, speeches Leadership helps leaders forge deep, human, emotional connections with the public. Establishing such connections with the electorate base is absolutely necessary for the Democrats' success.
To give a leadership talk, leaders must first answer "yes" to three simple questions: "Do you know what the public need?" "You can transfer your deep believe to others so that what to do about the challenges you face?" And, "You can do audience ardent action that gets results?" If a leader says 'no' to any of these questions, he can not make a speech of leadership.
If Dean and the Democrats want to reverse the Republican and reach the hearts of the voters' hearts and minds in America, should trash their speeches and presentations, and start giving Leadership Talks. Leadership Talk, they need to be a cornerstone of communication strategy DNC. They must get thousands of animals because democratic inland constantly giving speeches leadership. Otherwise, they will be victims of the fallacy of the President - confused about why I personally am so pumped up, so motivated on the one hand and yet are failing miserably on the other.
